He Remembered

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and I wanted to spend time with her. So, I brought her to my study time at work. After working for a few hours, she and I were walking home. Because of her disability, I carried her for a large part of the walk. We passed by a building where either a homeless man or woman hangs out. As we passed by, I smiled and he asked me if I had any change. Unfortunately, I didn't, so I told that I'm sorry. As I continued to walk, he yelled, "Wait, is that the puppy?" I turned around and I said, "You remember her?"

"Yeah, she's the one with the funny walk, right?"
"Yeah," I respond, a bit suprised and shell shocked that he remember Chandi.

I bring her her to him. She starts sniffing around his hands. His right had is extended and before he touches her he asks for my permission. I allow him to. She pulls back. He thinks it's because of his cigarette. So, he moves his left hand behind his back for a few seconds and then extinguishes his cigarette. "Oh, god, she is just precious." "Thank you, sir."

"Hey, do you mind if you put her on the ground? I wanna see her walk."
"Yeah, not a problem," as I put her down.
"Oh look at her. What's her issue?"
"Well, she has a brain issue," I said without using the word neurological. I wasn't sure if he would know if he knew what that word meant.
"Hmm, so you mean like a neurological issue?"
"HA. Yeah, exactly."
"So like her snapyses and nerves dont talk to the brain fast enough?"
"Ha, yeah, something like that."
"Oh, look at her trying to come up here with me."

Chandi is struggling to get up the steps.

"Yeah, she can't do steps well."
"Oh, cause of the crazy man that lives here."
"No, just cause of her disability."
"Oh. Man, she is just so cute."
"Thank you. I can't believe you remembered her." He had met her last year and made so many comments about her as I walked by, that I walked back and let him and his friend play with her for a few moments. They thought she was just the most adorable thing alive. They laughed and laughed as she jumped over them and shook her little behind.

"Man, how would I forget about her. She's just so darn cute. Cutie, where you going?" She is trying attempting to smell the Chinese store down the stairs. "Baby, that food is not for you! You can't eat Chinese food. Heck, sometimes I can't."
"Well, it was nice seeing you. I got to go. You take care, k?"
"Yes'm. And you take care of my baby. "
"I will."

I start walking away and then I hear, "Look, I'm still homeless." I turn around and say, "Yeah, I see that. I wish I could do something about that." He shakes his Starbucks change collector. "I'm sorry I don't have anything on me." I make a mental note to look for change at home and give it to him when I come back down.

I walk past the area a few hours later and he ain't there. I wonder what he is doing and if he talking to someone else about their dog or kid.

I found a study buddy

Let me introduce you to Chandi, my new study buddy. Although she may enjoy being at home and playing with another dog, she loves my attention and company. Therefore, I decided to bring her to my study space located in Dupont Circle. She's a great study partner (currently, she is sleeping).

Baby

I'm really nervous about the future for Chandi. I'm afraid she has a huge jealousy streak. HUGE. So, how is she gonna react when there is a little Chai running around and I have to direct my attention towards her or him rather than Chand. Oh, man. I'm so not looking forward to that.

Both the running around factor and Chandi being jealous.
